Start Your Morning Healthy!

Ah, mornings.  Its no secret; mornings usually aren't my (or anyone else's) favorite thing.  I consider myself a night owl and I could definitely sleep till noon if my body (and schedule) allowed.  However, that is not reality and every time the AM rolls around I'm up.  Lately I've tried to be healthier in those early hours and I must say, it makes mornings pretty bearable for me.  Which says a lot.  Here are some easy tips on how to start your day off right.

Drink Some H20
The reason behind this really couldn't be more simple.  Overnight your body is working hard to get ready for the next day without getting a single drop of water.  Poor thing.  So by the time you wake up, you can be pretty dehydrated.  So, to fix this problem grab a glass of water and start sipping!  Some experts also claim it helps your metabolism and removes toxins. Hey, that wouldn't hurt!  If you wishdding a splash of lemon juice gives you even MORE benefits and tastes delicious!

Looks refreshing, right?

Eat Breakfast
Okay so this one might seem pretty obvious...but some people (especially teens) skip this vital step to a good day.  Really, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!  It boosts your immune system (what fights off sickness) and helps maintain a healthy weight.  Plus it'll give you more energy throughout the day.  Breakfast should be a good balance of protein, fiber, and whole grains.  So, some great options for a healthy breakfast are eggs with veggies and cheese, a whole grain english muffin with a little peanut butter or whipped cream cheese, greek yogurt (watch out for the sugar count), or wholesome cereal high in fiber with fruit. Get a Move On
Exercising in the AM reaps many benefits.  If you take a jog in the morning, you'll beat the heat in the summer.  Also, you'll get your exercise for the day done which is beneficial if your out and about the rest of the day.  Some studies have even shown you burn more calories in the morning.  But, the reason I sometimes squeeze in a bike ride in the morning is exercise makes you happy for the rest of the day!  How?  Breaking a sweat releases toxins and endorphins, hormones in your brain shown to put you in a more positive mood.  That's why you may notice on days you don't work out you are more likely to be moody and crabby.  So, get a move on!

Taking a light jog will start your day right!

    1. I'd say before, since you should ideally give your body 60 minutes to digest your food before exercise! But if I'm ever hungry, I eat a banana about half an hour before because bananas are pretty easy to digest =)
